Honest Reporting's Backspin blog has an eyewitness account hot off the presses from the Karsenty appeal in Paris. As you probably know, Philippe Karsenty was sued by France2 television for his (or, rather Media-Ratings') attempts to expose the al-Dura hoax. Today, the court finally had the opportunity to review what France2 claims to be the complete footage of the incident. It was still several minutes short.
Make of this report what you will. It sounds like good news, but I'm waiting for more.
Thanks to Soccer Dad for the heads up.
Update: Again via Soccer Dad, who got it from Yid with Lid: Melanie Philipps, who was also there, weighs in.
As of today, such are the fresh contradictions and questions thrown up by the showing of this footage it would seem that France 2 has painted itself into a corner from which it will find it increasingly hard to escape.
And I'm still waiting. We knew about all those contradictions and questions. They've been outlined and highlighted and explained and analyzed for years, and have largely been met by the media with a big ho hum. Will that change now? I sure hope so. Unfortunately, contradictions and questions aren't generally enough to win a libel defense in France. (For an outstanding analysis of French libel law as it specifically applies to this lawsuit, see Neo-neocon, here.) And we'll have to wait until the end of February to learn the impact that today's viewing actually had on the case.
